About Our
Wines

There's A "Plus" in Father's + Daughters

Source – The fruit for most of our wines is sourced from our family’s property, Anderson Valley’s storied Ferrington Vineyard. With 78 acres under vine, varietals grown at Ferrington include Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer. The fruit for our Rose of Zinfandel comes from the Nelson Family Vineyard in Ukiah and we also produce an additional Pinot each year from another top-tier vineyard in the Anderson Valley.

Winemaker – We are fortunate to have the talented Phil Baxter Jr., of Baxter Winery, working with our family to craft these wines.

Production – Fathers + Daughters Cellars is a high-touch, small-production multi-generational family venture. You will find our fingerprints on every step of the process, from the harvest, to the press, to the bottle. Our total production this year will be approximately 750 cases of wine featuring vineyard-designates for most of the wines we bottle. Our still wines are produced at Baxter Winery, in an old barn located high on the Mendocino ridge.

Featured Single Varietals From Ferrington Vineyard

Ella’s Reserve Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is the signature fruit of this vineyard. It was the first varietal we produced in honor of the birth of our daughter, Ella Mac, in 2012. This is a complex, balanced and vibrant Pinot Noir. The nose is instantly compelling with complexity and depth that draws one in. Exotic spices abound with nutmeg, burdock, plum skin, and graphite. Fresh fruity and floral aromas slowly unfold showing violets, rose petal, bergamot, and red current. Candied fruit, bramble, and sweet tobacco give this wine a rich and supple quality.

Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc

Harvested from vines originally planted in 1969 and pale straw in color, the nose of this Sauvignon Blanc is wild and exotic evoking memories of a spring meadow in full bloom. Fresh honeydew melons, rose petal, pink grapefruit and anise round out the aromas. This wine is both earthy and fruity, the palate a blend of spices, green fruits and herbs. The mouthfeel is vibrant and marked by texture, with elements of rose petal, jalapeño and pine nuts found in the long finish.

Chardonnay
Progressive in style, this wine’s bright personality begins on the nose with pineapple and lychee complimented by delicate florals of orange blossom and split cedar. A smooth yet vibrant mouthfeel and notes of fresh-cut white peaches set this sophisticated and invigorating Chardonnay apart from the crowd. This wine is both focused and nuanced, with a smooth body and a mouthwatering Champagne finish.

Gewurztraminer

Living up to the name, this wine is spicy and floral, showing elements of Turkish delight, cardamom, honeydew melon, fresh pear, and sea spray on the nose. Big tropical fruits arrive in the mouth as starfruit, loquats, lychee, fresh strawberries and lime zest meld on the palate. The briny and earthy texture of this dry Gewürztraminer evokes carpaccio as the palate transitions with the fruit leaving a finish akin to a top-shelf margarita.

Other Offerings

Rosé

Overall, a beautiful pearlescent color and brilliant hue hint at the delicate and focused nature of this Rosé of Zinfandel from Nelson Family Vineyards. Both powerful and subtle, this wine develops over time and delivers a mouthwatering freshness. On the nose, this wine is both bright and subtle with floral notes of orange blossom and rose petal. Hints of citrus enhance the aromas with grapefruit, kumquat, and Meyer lemon zest. An earthy spice shows itself with white pepper and melon rind, while fresh fruits of Bing cherry and raspberry bring depth and character to the rosé. On the palate the wine is bright and refreshing with a zingy mineral core. The body is silky in texture, mixing perfectly with the tropical fruit flavors. Guava and lychee work together with quince and under ripe strawberry to build intensity and focus while retaining a leanness in the finish.

The Dance

An elegant blend of 60% Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Gewurztraminer and 10% Chardonnay from Ferrington Vineyard, this wine, expertly choreographed from grape to bottle by winemaker Phillip Baxter, offers a sophisticated vibrancy with excellent balance. On the palate, bright grapefruit marries with gentle hints of white peach and citrus blossom. Fresh, soft florals add delicate perfume and grace, while nuances of marmalade on the mid-palate contribute additional depth and complexity to the mouthfeel. Stone-fruit and barely-ripe strawberry share a lively dance on the lingering mineral finish. This is a wine whose individual characteristics meld together with complete synchrony to produce a truly refined result.

Sarah’s Rustic Bubbles

Produced in the petillant naturel style, this rustic sparkling of 100% Chardonnay from was pressed into bottle, crown-capped and allowed to ferment without disgorgement or dosage. The result is a smooth, silky, effervescent wine with classic Chardonnay characteristics and baked bread on the nose. Prepare for a slight “gush” upon opening as the bubbles carry some of the remaining yeast sediment out of the bottle. This is truly a rustic celebration wine perfect for dressed-down occasions that should be served deeply chilled.

Apple Kobler

This hard cider is named after Ferrington Vineyard Manager, Norman Kobler, whose family has been farming in the Anderson Valley for more than 50 years. The apples for this cider (60% Sierra Beauty, 30% Pippin and 10% Golden Delicious), were hand-harvested by Norman, his wife Colleen, and his sons Tiernan and Morgan. An abundance of fresh apple, pear and quince on the nose, this is a dry and balanced cider that pairs well with Camembert-style cheeses, cheddar and other English territorial cheeses such as Cheshire and Caerphilly, as well as semi-hard cheeses like Gruyère, Beaufort and Appenzeller. A great accompaniment to pork dishes, creamy sauces, savory crepes and salads.

Other Vineyard Designates

From time to time, Fathers + Daughters will source fruit from other noteworthy vineyards whose character, we feel, is a true reflection of time and terroir.
